How Easy is It to Swap a Stepside for a Regular Bed Written By Dixson Derry1977 Tuesday, October 4, 2022 Add Comment Edit dap [OP] Member Joined: Sep 26, 2022 Member: #406725 Messages: 7 Gender: Male Vehicle: 2002 Tacoma Stepside Hi! Total newbie here. Just got a 2002 Tocoma Prerunner w/ stepside bed. Would love to get a truck cap but having trouble confirming bed dimensions are the same for stepside vs "regular" bed. Can anyone here confirm? Also, any recommendations for truck caps? I've been looking at A.R.E. but am opent to any suggestions from folks on this forum. Thanks in advance! A standard bed will most likely be easier to find than a stepside shell. I imagine the only thing different between the two beds would be the fuel filler neck, but not necessarily. 4 bolts hold the bed to the frame. glwood6 Well-Known Member Joined: Jul 25, 2008 Member: #8125 Messages: 1,978 Gender: Male First Name: Gary Albuquerque, NM Vehicle: 03 XCab Prerunner Bilstein 4600 shocks. @dap - do you have any details and photos of this unicorn stepside? dap [OP] Member Joined: Sep 26, 2022 Member: #406725 Messages: 7 Gender: Male Vehicle: 2002 Tacoma Stepside i'll take some photos later today and post them here. Maybe switch to a regular bed? I can't imagine how small a step side bed is. There are always beds at the wrecking yards, I've seen some really clean ones. But also some super beat and abused ones too. If you want to go that route I can help swap it out and paint it. Should take far less than an hour to swap a bed.
